MY TESTIMONY

Hello everyone, my name is Ling Zhang. I’m very grateful for the opportunity to share with you today how I became a Christian.

I was born in a rural area,a small villiage in Jiaodong of Shandong Province, China. My family did not have a formal religious belief. During festivals, my parents would offer food in worship, but even they were not quite sure which god they were worshiping. Growing up in that environment, I always had a sense that there must be a higher power governing the world.

When I was a teenager, in the late 1970s, I listened to a Hong Kong radio station on shortwave. They shared Bible stories and mentioned that listeners could write to request a Bible. At that time, I longed to have one, but due to the circumstances back then, that wish was never fulfilled.

More than twenty years later, after I graduated from college, I returned to Qingdao, started working, got married, and had a child. Later, I worked for a foreign company, where I met a colleague who was a Christian. When I learned that she had a Bible, I kept asking to borrow it. At first, she kept forgetting to bring it, but I reminded her almost every day. Finally, one day, she brought it to me. At that moment, a desire I had carried for over twenty years was finally fulfilled.

Because it was borrowed, I treasured it deeply and read through the entire Bible in three months. During that time, I strongly desired to understand what it really meant to believe in Jesus. So, with this colleague, I attended a house church gathering for the first time.

I still clearly remember that first meeting. There were about ten people gathered in someone’s home. The first hymn we sang was “Amazing Grace.” For reasons I could not explain, tears began to flow uncontrollably. As I listened to others pray, I continued to weep. From that moment on, I entered what I would describe as a “season of first love” with Jesus.

That year became the most beautiful time of my life—more beautiful even than when I first fell in love. Although nothing around me had changed, my heart was filled with an indescribable sweetness, joy, and peace. My entire outlook on life began to change.

Before I believed in the Lord, I was a very selfish and prideful person, often lacking a sense of security. As a child, I even fought with my siblings over small things. As I grew older, I would argue with others and never admit defeat. But after coming to faith, when I realized that I am a sinner in need of Jesus’ salvation, I began to understand others’ weaknesses and gradually became more patient and more forgiving.

After becoming a Christian, reading the Bible and praying every morning and evening became my greatest joy. God’s Word has guided me again and again. Verses like, “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom,” and “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding,” have given me strength and direction in both my life and my work.

In my career, I have also experienced God’s guidance. Step by step, I was promoted from engineer to workshop supervisor, and then to department manager. At each stage, I learned to seek God’s direction. Of course, believing in the Lord does not mean life becomes smooth and easy. But I know deeply that no matter what I go through, God is with me. He leads me through both the highs and the lows.

Since I came to faith in 2000, more than twenty years have passed. The God I believe in has never failed me. He hears prayers and faithfully fulfills His promises.

Because I have personally experienced this grace, I feel a strong calling to share the gospel with others. I was the first believer in my family, and later my husband, my child, my parents, and other relatives also came to believe in Jesus. I thank God for allowing me to be a blessing to my family.

At work, I also share the gospel with my colleagues whenever I have the opportunity. As the Bible says, “Woe to me if I do not preach the gospel.” This is truly how I feel in my heart.

My friends, today I sincerely invite you to come and know this one true God, the Creator of heaven and earth. He loves you and desires to enter your life, to give you true peace and hope.

May God bless you all!
